Department of Jobs and Small Businesses claim that by May 2023, it is estimated that jobs in the health sector will rise by 14.9% or 250,300 jobs.
The population of Australia will continue to age and also grow; with more children and elderly, the demand for childcare and home-based services increases. The national roll out of NDIS across the country has seen 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability, given the opportunity to receive funding for support and services. This along with the estimated 5 million baby boomers moving into their 60s, has increased the demand on the health care and social assistance industry and created more employment opportunities.
For recruitment agencies, the opportunity in this sector stems far beyond carers and nurses; there’s a need for kitchen staff, administration, support workers, and even bus drivers etc. who all play a part in the development and overall care in our elderly and children.
With the growing population, estimated to reach 41 million by 2050, the construction industry will continue to be busy to accommodate the need for new homes, offices and supermarkets of the increasing population. With the help of the first home owners grant, Australia is already currently heading into a 7 year high for first home buyers.
The construction industry is projected to grow by 10% by May 2023, with strong infrastructure investment and non-residential building activity as well as a continued increase on residential building. The 2019 Budget of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, shows the Australian Government will be investing more than $100 billion in national infrastructure projects over the next 10 years, making the construction industry the second fastest growing industry for employment opportunities. As trades roles are physically demanding, such as labouring or bricklaying, there is a higher rate of employees leaving when they are older. This opens more opportunities for young people, who usually enter the industry through apprenticeships and traineeships. The training and experience these people receive can lead to management jobs in the future.
With the continued growth in the school aged population and international education sector, the Education and Training industry will see an 11.2% rise for 2023.
For recruiters, the growth within the Education and Training industry is a great opportunity and as found in the the April 2018 Labour Market Research completed by the Department of Jobs and Small Business, roles were filled with low difficulty. An average vacancy fill rate for school teachers was 89%.
The lowest employment rate within the employment and education sector was teaching positions in early childhood. Employers have said this is due to the hours of service, holiday entitlements and remuneration are different than centres operating in the school sector.
The Australian Government announced they will commit $450 million to the Early Childhood sector to extend the National Partnership on Universal Access to Early Childhood Education to the end of 2020. This provides all children the opportunity to have 600 hours of early childhood education before their first year at school. This will see an increase in employment across the whole Education and Training sector as the children age and progress through all the school stages.
